Tough economic conditions have compelled companies to find ways to improve performance by eliminating waste. Application of lean principles and practices (Lean) accomplish this objective by removing activities across the enterprise (manufacturing, order to delivery, supply chain, distribution) that do not add value to the customer, increasing revenues, margins and market responsiveness. Implementing Lean in the supply chain presents a huge opportunity, but also a huge challenge, as most current techniques are too slow and too costly. The advent of new Internet technology however, allows for new techniques and approaches that are much quicker and more efficient. It is now possible to use powerful web-based solutions and proven implementation techniques to deliver lasting improvements in revenues, margins and market responsiveness at a depth, breadth and speed that have never been possible before. This presentation will discuss ways of encouraging and enabling suppliers to improve their performance. It will also discuss new, powerful tools and techniques and show how companies use these to achieve performance improvements in their supply chains to enhance their own performance.
