ISM's Persons of the Year Honored at 97th Annual Conference

Five supply management professionals recognized for volunteer efforts.
TEMPE, Ariz. (May 7, 2012) — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) today recognized five individuals as Persons of the Year for their volunteer leadership efforts during the prior year. Persons of the Year were publicly announced at an appreciation breakfast and awards presentation held during ISM's 97th Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit, in Baltimore. The 2011 Persons of the Year recipients are:
Education/Learning Person of the Year
S.K. Ryou, CPSM, C.P.M. ISM—Korea, Inc.
S.K. Ryou, CPSM, C.P.M., has made significant contributions to supply management education and training programs in Korea. He develops and delivers seminars and organizes training courses on negotiations, purchasing fundamentals and ISM's professional credentials. Ryou has translated Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) diagnostic and exam preparation materials into Korean and utilizes the ISM—Korea, Inc. website to promote training and educational opportunities.
Innovation/Creativity Person of the Year
Hannah Heuser, ISM—Nashville, Inc.
Hannah Heuser is a constant source of new ideas. She chaired a scholarship review process and has introduced new networking ideas to affiliate meetings. Heuser also provides individual résumé review and job interview advice to fellow members, students and fellow business professionals. Heuser organized a popular behind-the-scenes tour of Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tenn., which offered a glimpse into the property's services spend, food and beverage operations, and multiple sustainable solutions for energy usage.
Leadership Person of the Year
David A. Allen, C.P.M., ISM—Houston, Inc.
David A. Allen, C.P.M., models a path for young professionals to network and gauge their professional and career growth. As the sponsor/adviser for his affiliate's Emerging Professionals Group (EPG), Allen provided leadership and guidance in preparing a comprehensive board proposal detailing group roles and responsibilities, objectives and planned events for the upcoming year. Allen has also encouraged the EPG to reach out to local universities to engage with students and build relationships with the next generation of supply management professionals.
Marketing/Communicating Person of the Year
Tex Shellhart, C.P.M., ISM—Nashville, Inc.
Tex Shellhart, C.P.M., uses social media tools such as LinkedIn to keep a growing number of members — and potential members — informed about affiliate programs, membership benefits and other news. He has devoted hours of time toward outreach and recruitment efforts to garner new members as well as retain and engage existing members. He has organized recruitment contests, led a membership retention committee and spearheaded an affiliate welcome committee, and expanded networking opportunities.
Volunteer Person of the Year
Ellen Berry, CPSM, C.P.M., ISM—Kansas City, Inc.
Ellen Berry, CPSM, C.P.M., is described as an unselfish volunteer who shares her limited time at all levels of the organization. She has been actively involved in ISM's affiliate volunteer Leadership Training Workshops for several years. In addition to her leadership roles in the ISM Services Group, Berry also makes herself available to her affiliate, ISM—Kansas City, Inc., providing assistance and guidance on defining officer roles and managing smooth officer transitions.
