ISM Names Persons of the Year

Supply chain professionals honored for contributions to their affiliates and the profession.
(Tempe, Ariz.) May 16, 2011 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) has announced its Persons of the Year Awards, honoring those who have made significant contributions to ISM and the supply management profession. Winners were recognized at an appreciation breakfast today during ISM's 96th Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit, in Orlando, Florida. Persons of the Year Awards recognize excellence in the areas of Education/Learning, Innovation/Creativity, Leadership, Marketing/Communicating and Volunteerism. The 2010 ISM Persons of the Year recipients are:
Education/Learning Person of the Year
Elton D. Brock, C.P.M., NAPM—Austin, Inc.
Elton Brock strives to make sure everyone gains value from NAPM—Austin, Inc.'s educational offerings. He coordinates relevant topics and speakers that support the vision and mission of ISM. He ensures that continuing education hours (CEHs) can be earned at programs that include speakers from ISM's International Conference. Brock makes himself available to students and peers, and donates his time and talents to further the profession and help volunteers grow.
Innovation/Creativity Person of the Year
Amy Gress, PMA of Cleveland, Inc.
Amy Gress has the ability to evaluate, embrace and adopt new technologies that improve affiliate operations and the overall member experience. As chair of the technology committee, she was the catalyst behind a new affiliate website that debuted in September 2010. Gress piloted the effort through all stages, from seeding a committee, sending out a request for proposal (RFP), evaluating results, writing a board recommendation, negotiating a contract and testing each stage of development.
Leadership Person of the Year
Joseph R. Britt, CPSM, ISM—Houston, Inc.
Joseph Britt's leadership style is described as open, generous and professional. He invites neighboring affiliates to attend ISM—Houston, Inc. seminars and CPSM® Exam reviews. Britt also works with students and faculty at area universities — helping with case studies and conducting student roundtables. He reinvigorated his affiliate student paper contest Britt has attended ISM Leadership Training Workshops for three consecutive years, as well as three local leadership training workshops.
Marketing/Communicating Person of the Year
Christine E. Fahy, ISM—Connecticut, Inc.
Christine Fahy's warm communication style is an effective membership marketing and retention tool. She initiated the practice of welcoming new members with a phone call. Fahy maintains the same level of enthusiasm during membership renewal campaigns. She is admired for her talent at leveraging affiliate projects to garner positive coverage. The annual Supply Management Month food drive and a State Capitol Park cleanup effort in 2010 raised the affiliate's visibility in the area business community.
Volunteer Person of the Year
Eugene Ruff-Wagner, CPSM, C.P.M., NAPM—New Mexico, Inc.
Eugene Ruff-Wagner keeps the NAPM—News Mexico, Inc. board on track with reminders of the "the ISM cause" and a shared goal of helping the membership. He is admired for instilling a culture of "walking the talk". He has earned ISM certifications, led successful seminars, and actively led or participated in monthly educational dinner meetings and membership drives. Ruff-Wagner has been known to lighten the mood by sharing his musical talents, performing skits or rewriting humorous lyrics to popular songs.
