University of Texas at Dallas Masters Program Gains ISM Recognition

FOR RELEASE: August 12, 2010

(TEMPE, Ariz.) August 12, 2010 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) has granted official recognition to the Master of Science (M.S.) in Supply Chain Management degree program offered at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). Institutions of higher education that seek ISM approval agree to submit their academic programs and curricula to ISM for evaluation. As part of the review process, the UT Dallas School of Management provided proof of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation and extensive details on curriculum for its M.S. in supply chain management. A panel of subject matter experts concluded that the information provided by UT Dallas compares favorably to the body of knowledge of supply management as defined by ISM.

In summary findings, evaluators noted particular strong areas of content and curriculum, including specific courses on software in supply management, and a focus on risk and decision-making. The panel review also confirmed that outlined curriculum is relevant to the study and preparation for ISM's Certified Professional in Supply Management® (CPSM®) designation.

According UT Dallas leaders, ISM's favorable acknowledgment of the Master of Science in Supply Management degree comes at a perfect time. "This fall, the School of Management is unveiling an executive program with an emphasis in product lifecycle and supply chain management, "says Shawn Alborz, Ph.D., director of operations management. "ISM approval of our M.S. in Supply Chain Management degree program gives us even more confidence that we are providing relevant and meaningful education for those who are entering the profession or continuing to lead the profession."
