NAPM—Houston, Inc. is a leader in the advancement of supply management.
(Tempe, Ariz.) April 26, 2010 — Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) has awarded NAPM—Houston, Inc. the prestigious Affiliate of the Year Award. ISM officially recognized affiliate excellence today at a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast during its 95th Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in San Diego. Affiliate Excellence Awards recognize ISM affiliates that demonstrate an awareness and distinction in their professional operations, educational offerings, and ability to recruit, train and retain members, while at the same time communicating the value and prestige of ISM and the supply management profession.
NAPM—Houston, Inc. President Kimberly K. Wren, A.P.P., has high praise for the determined and dedicated volunteers who were instrumental in propelling the affiliate to 2009 Affiliate of the Year status. "Our affiliate officers met in August for our annual strategic planning meeting with our main goal of continuing our focus on achieving Affiliate of the Year recognition," Wren says. "When we met, we reviewed the criteria for the Affiliate of the Year and assigned action items to the committee chairs to align with our mission statement, 'to provide continuing education, workshops and speakers.'" Our affiliate increased our 2009-10 Continuing Education Hours (CEH) from 71 to 94.
As the affiliate executed its marketing plan, several key achievements resulted, including development of an NAPM—Houston, Inc. handbook and brochure, and a calendar of events. "We used these tools to promote our educational and fundraising events for the year and recruit new members," Wren explains. Other outreach activities included stepping up communication with local universities. "Our initial efforts included the University of Houston–Downtown, and we expanded our communication to include the University of Houston–Main Campus and Texas A&M University in College Station," she says.
